At 16:50 on March 18, 2011, Medic 3A called Fireboard to report a garage fire. At 16:51 AM, the Cranston Heights Fire Company was alerted to assist Mill Creek Fire Company on a garage fire. Stations 2/21 & Engine 14 were dispatched to the emergency. 14-3 responded quickly with a crew of three. While en route, Medic 3A advised that the fire had now spread to the house and additional resources would be required. Fireboard upgraded the incident to a working residential fire, which included Stations 2/21, Engine & Rescue 14, Engine 30, Engine 8, and Ladder 16.

At 16:59, 14-3 arrived with a crew of 3 and requested the next due engine to lay in to the hydrant. 14-3 utilized the primary handline for fire suppression. While working to extinguish the fire, units operating on the interior found ammunition stored in the garage was exploding. Shortly after, command advised the crews operating inside to use caution, the occupant advised there was a 7 foot red tail boa constrictor and a poisonous tarantula in the basement. Units on-scene worked until 17:34, when the situation was placed under control. 14-3 assisted with overhaul and placing units back in service.
