On April 19th, Station 14, Engine 21, Engine 16, Rescue 30 and Ladder 17 were alerted for a house fire on Ferris Rd. As units responded Fire Board stated that there was a possible fire on the second floor.
Engine 14-2 arrived on scene and reported nothing evident from the Alpha side exterior. Chief 14-8 arrived and confirm conditions as reported. Chief 14-8 then established Cranston Heights Command. Upon entering the dwelling the crew from E14-2 encountered smoke and heat from the second floor. Command advised Fire Board of the reported conditions which brought E23-6 as the R.I.T., Medic 7 and A17 as additional EMS. The crew from E14-2 pulled a 200 ft attack line and advanced it to the second floor. Crews were hampered due to excessive heat and withdrew to the first floor until ventilation was completed. The crew from L17 was assigned outside ventilation which made fire attack on the second floor possible. Upon arrival of Rescue 14 the crew was advised to pull a second attack line for the first floor and completed a primary search with assistance from 21-6. Crews were able to control the fire and complete primary and secondary searches. The completed primary search was negative on both the first and second floors. Command placed the situation under control, and remained on scene to assist the homeowner with contacting the Red Cross.
