Residential Fire: Breidablik
Monday, November 6, 2017
On Monday, April 25 at 1133 hours, Station 14 was dispatched to a "Residential Fire Alarm" at 3314 Breidablik Drive, in the community of Breidablik. Immediately after the initial dispatch, Station 14, Engines 21 and 30, Rescue 16, and Tower 19 were dispatched for a "Residential Fire" at the same address.
Engine 14-2, with a crew of 4, responded and was advised that the fire was reported in a first floor storage area in the rear of the structure. When 14-2 arrived at the scene, smoke was showing from the "C" (rear) side of the structure. 14-2's Officer reported the conditions and requested a Tanker Task Force from Chester County along with 2 more 1,000 gallon tank trucks from New Castle County.
The crew of 14-2 deployed a 2" hand line to the "C" side and found a storage room on the basement level of the structure on fire. The room was heavily loaded with combustibles. 14-2 Officer assumed "Cranston Heights Command". Rescue 16 and Tower 19 arrived next. Rescue 16's crew was assigned to assist 14-2's crew, and Tower 19's crew was assigned to check for extension to Division 1, and to begin ventilation of Divisions 1 and 2.
Engine 17 was initially dispatched as the RIT, but was reassigned by Command to standby to finish S-21's supply line if needed. Squrt 30 arrived and was assigned as the RIT.
Tanker 19 arrived and set-up to set up the tanker shuttle at the intersection of Breidablik Dr. and Beethoven Cir., with Deputy 19 assuming "Water Supply" responsibility. Eng. 16-5, Chester County Tankers 23, and 25 were assigned to the Water Supply Division.
The fire was knocked down quickly. Then burning materials had to be removed from the structure to fully extinguish the fire. This also allowed access to the area in order to determine if there was any extension of the fire into any additional portions of the structure. No extension was discovered beyond the original storage room.
There was smoke throughout the structure which was removed by mechanical and natural ventilation. Command placed the incident under control at 1204 hours. Units remained on scene for overhaul and take up until approx. 1330 hours.
