"The Cranston Heights Volunteer Fire Company is honored by having the first fighter plane of the Air National Guard of Delaware named for it - as a result of the cooperative recruiting plan under which the Air Guard obtained new members through efforts of the fire company. Cranston Heights firemen signed up six recruits in the drive. Viewing the "Cranston Heights" fighter plane are Chief Walter Knotts of the fire company (standing on the ground, left); Charles Heal, president of the company (on the right) and First Lieutenant Frank H. Stern, Jr., (on the wing of the plane) of the 142nd Fighter Squadron."
