This morning, Rescue 14 with a crew of 5 stood by on Route 141 (southbound) overpass at I-95/I-295, with other New Castle and Delaware County Fire Companies to honor Marine Staff Sergeant Christopher Slutman.
SSGt Slutman was killed in the line of duty serving our country in Afghanistan when his convoy was hit by a roadside bomb, killing him and two other soldiers. SSGt Slutman was also a Firefighter with the FDNY and Kentland Fire Dept. (Md.), and he was also a Delaware resident.
We honor SSgt Slutman as a brother and as a soldier with numerous other companies from across Delaware as he makes his last trip from Dover AFB. Rest In Peace.
Also on both Route 141 bridges to honor SSgt Slutman, were Minquas Fire Co., Belvedere Fire Co., Delaware ANG Fire Dept., Wilmington Manor Fire Co., Five Points Fire Company, Claymont Fire Co., New Castle County Paramedics, the Delaware State Fire School, and Aston Twp Fire Dept. (Delaware County, Pa). The Wilmington Fire Department Recruit Class was also there at the Airport Rd off ramp, a short distance away.
