Early Morning Fire Assist to Aetna on Labor Day Displaces Residents

In the early morning hours of Labor Day, Engine 14 was dispatched to assist the Aetna Fire Department on Chadd Road in Drummond Ridge Townhouses for a reported structure fire with possible entrapment. Reports were that the deck was on fire and a female was inside the home. Police arrived confirming a fire but that the resident was out.

Engine 14 arrived with four personnel as the first due engine, with fire on 2 floor and through the roof. Crews established water supply along with Engine 9’s crew and began to work on pulling handlines to extinguish the fire. Other units arrived quickly behind, and as crews began to see extension into the next unit, 9-8 (Chief AJ Schall) from Aetna who had the Newark Command upgraded to the second alarm assignment. 14-8 (Chief Jon Sokira) and 14-8B (Assistant Chief Joey Swift) were also on scene assisting with operations. After about an hour, most of the flames were out and units were on scene until 7:40am. The residents were displaced from two units.
