I-95 Major Project to Begin and Expected to Effect the Area

Thursday, January 28, 2021

The I-95 Viaduct project begins on February 12th, 2021. This project is designed to improve and lengthen the life the roadway. Construction will occur between I495 and I295 and the Brandywine River Bridge in the City of Wilmington. The first step will be redirecting and moving northbound traffic to share the southbound lanes as a two-way roadway. The project is expected to be completed in June of 2023.

This construction is expected to have an impact on traffic in all areas surrounding the City of Wilmington, including Cranston Heights. Traffic may become heavy due to high volume, like during rush hour, or during times of traffic incidents like an auto accident on any roadway nearby. The full effect won't be known until the project begins, but the potential for longer commute times and simply delays in our responses to our and our mutual aid partners' areas are expected. We hope that the delays, if any, will be minor so your service is not affected.
